HOUSE OF GUCCI- Hollywood Touch To A Family Saga

As November is about to end, one of the most anticipated movies of the season is finally here. If you are still in doubt, we are talking about the HOUSE OF GUCCI.

House Of Gucci talks about another sensational murder from the period of nineteen that is famous for the sensational murders. In 1997 Gianni Versace was murdered, and you can watch the Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story to know what happens.

Just like this, Hollywood again took a step and now brings you another scandalous true murder story of the nineties era. House of Gucci throws light on a shocking true story of the murder of Maurizio Gucci by a hitman hired by his ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani.

The movie was released on 24th November, and now that it is in theatres, we are here to tell you about the story, cast, and everything we know.

Top Cast

The movie is based on the book β€œThe House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed” written by Sara Gay Forden that originally published in 2000.

House of Gucci is directed by Ridley Scott and stars Lady Gaga & Adam Driver as the leading couple, along with the legend Al Pacino, Jared Leto, and Jeremy Irons as the crucial members of the Gucci family.

Lady Gaga plays the role of leading lady Patrizia Reggiani, Adam Driver plays Maurizio Gucci (Husband of Patrizia), Slama Hayek plays Pina Auriemma, Reggiani’s psychic-slash-accomplice, and Camille Cottin plays Paola Franchi (Maurizio’s girlfriend).

Top Characters:

  • Lady Gaga- as Patrizia Reggiani
  • Adam Driver- as Maurizio Gucci
  • Al Pacino- as Aldo Gucci
  • Jeremy Irons- as Rodolfo Gucci
  • Jared Leto- as Paolo Gucci
  • Salma Hayek- as Pina Auriemma
  • Camille Cottin- as Paola Franchi

The Portrayal

House of Gucci reveals the true story behind the biggest and most shocking event that occurred in the GUCCI family that is said to be a pioneer in the Italian fashion empire.

The movie focuses on Maurizio Gucci, Patrizia Reggiani, and her ambitions to be a part of the world of wealth and power despite her humble beginnings.

Patrizia Reggiani is portrayed as a woman who sacrificed and manipulated everything. In other words, put everything on the line to become part of a powerful Gucci fashion family, no matter what the cost.

As the story prevails, you see how Patrizia’s strong desire and ambition start to unravel the legacy of the Gucci family and trigger a web of betrayal, decadence, revenge, and ultimately the murder.

You will see how Patrizia and Maurizio meet, get married, divorce, have high-end family lawsuits, and finally, the murder of Maurizio at the hands of his ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani.

However, the film cleverly ends by carefully acknowledging the current value and power of the Gucci Empire.

We are not shocked as a single movie can never capture the larger-than-life aspects of a legendary family and its circle.

What We Think

There are various aspects that we liked and disliked about the movie. Some things were bearable, while some were just too much to handle. Let us talk about those various aspects and see how much justice the film did to this real-life story.

The movie compressed and streamlined the story. Yes, some facts are wrongly portrayed. For example:

  • The leading couple Maurizio and Patrizia had two daughters, but the movie only shows one;
  • Aldo Gucci had three sons, whereas the movie only shows Paolo;
  • The movie shows Maurizio was shot three times, however, he was shot four times;

Apart from this, instead of focusing on the family drama, the movie dedicates more screen time to the business machinations. Other than this, the endless family lawsuits that members file against one other have too much presence.

When it comes to acting, we would like to say that almost every actor did justice to their role, however, some shined brilliantly.

  • The best acting skills portrayed in this film are by Jeremy Irons, who nailed the role of Rodolfo Gucci, father of Maurizio Gucci. He showcases his theatre acting skills by getting under the skin of the character.
  • Al Pacino is the next actor who did justice to his role. He plays the role of Aldo Gucci, who is the brother of Rodolfo. His acting is believable but not as high-end as you would expect from a legend.
  • Lady Gaga resurfaced her love for acting after her sensational performance in β€œA Star Is Born”. She did justice to her role. Although we can not say it is her best performance. But she did a great job in portraying the role of Patrizia Reggiani.
  • Adam Driver also did a good job in the portrayal of Maurizio Gucci, who cheats on his wife, and finally gets murdered.

The Gucci Company gave the production house complete creative freedom and even granted access to the houses of archives for props and wardrobes.

This is the reason the movie looks so authentic, realistic, and all the clothes are to die for. Gucci is a top brand for a reason.

Bottom Line

The movie is too big. The timeline of 2.5 hours is unbearable, especially towards the end. There is nothing much happening after a point, and it comes off as dull.

Though it has that magic touch of Hollywood, pleasing to eyes. However, the weak storyline gives you the feeling that it will fall apart at any moment.
